A portfolio essentially is a conglomeration of a student's creativity, technical skills and presentation ability. It is the essence of the student's learning spanned over the duration of the course. At Hamstech Institute of fashion & Interior Design, students undergo rigorous teaching to develop exceptional portfolios, which would in near future, prove useful for interviews.

Enlisted below are some students and their theme-based collections for their individual folios. Take a glimpse into this creative haven.

Gossip of the Goddesses

Of the land where mysteries behold,
Of the region, about which many tales were told…
Of romances so bold,
Or wars that waged, leaving many cold…
The Grecian history will now unfold!

Cascading tops almost merge into the expansion of voluminous and layered skirts which ‘Helen of Troy' would wish she could pour her waist into.

Togas which embrace and secure the torso, elicit a feel of being blessed by the ‘Greek Goddesses'.

Athena would love the flared sensation of the ‘flapper' pants and the drapes could make Aphrodite nostalgic.

The colour palette, which consists of voiles and chiffons in cloud, snow, chalk, ivory and albino is accented with the very delicacy of ‘crochet' and an avalanche of crystals that accent the “Icy look”.

Presenting a collection certified, endorsed and approved by the “Goddesses”.

Ancient art and exuberance…

Engravings that encompass endeavour…

Creatures carved out of compassion…

Forms fleshed out of stones…

Gold – not only a medium but also an expression, an inspiration…

An Era - when Buddhism dwelled into the depths of human existence, when spiritual anarchy prevailed and the Rudraksha symbolized harmony…

Orange twilights defined Banaras and the chants of sages added music to the ambience.

Emanating from the temple sculptures is a collection crafted out of the most divine weaves in brocades, silks, crepe-silks, which are embellished with gold, spelling the cultural influence of its ideology. Rich tones of red, oxblood, rust and blue lend life to the range of Ethno-centric Indo-Western silhouettes. Accessories accent the collection and bring conviction to a period that was and even now, stands for strong Indian Integrity.

She is glorified in a collection that spells - Ethno Maharasthrian meets Boho-kitsch.

Converted out of denims and cottons with Maharashtrian borders and teaser touches, this range comprises of bustiers, skirts and corsets in varied versions, reflecting the spirit of Mumbai in its myriad moods.

She gets on to the rush hour 9:20 a.m. - Andheri to Churchgate line. She is familiar to the smells of open drains and rotting fish. She regales in the daily humdrum of the Mumbai madness.

A little coquettish and a little conquering, she can be suggestive yet subtle, flirty yet demure. Her rustic demeanour elaborates her penchant for being alive. Unafraid to explore, she keeps pace with her race of the city. Not foregoing the insignia of her identity, she deftly blends it with the urban jungle.

Aila! She's our very own Maharashtrian Mulgi turned Impromptu Mod.

Wear your battle pants and hold on to your holsters.

Splash on your camouflage and strap on your holders.

The lights are out and the trenches are dug.

Load up when the sirens are on for we are going to war.

With explosions everywhere and the scream of ambulances, you have to brave it all. The steel birds are in the air ejecting lethal assaults and our battle cats on the ground fighting away the moths.

The chains have shackled, the boots have stomped, the rivets have reflected and the pockets pronounced. Nobody dare ask a soldier his secrets!

The guns are aiming and the bullets flying.

Our uniforms ensure that we are won without too much trying.

Corduroy rolled to rescue and aviators arrived on time.

Take me on your mighty wings tonight!

It is the annual nocturnal event when the red carpet rolls out like the tongue of a bewitching serpent and forgives a few punctures in its fiber, created by the heels that hold up their owner's dainty feet. It is the night the divas descend simultaneously with their much rehearsed speeches, hoping to clinch the golden torso that acknowledges their final retakes on screen. As the world watches with heart-stopping anticipation, fates are decided, nominations announced and the suspense unraveled.

It is the night when all times lead to the Oscars, where femme fatales disembark, in what you must met call clothes, but actually are wraps of wonder, creating a heady mix of allure and incandescence.

Presenting a collection raised for the Oscars in all its illustrious sensuality, whipped out of spandex that skins the contours and teases the imagination, reminding you of that so very unapproachable aura. With a palette of bedazzling black and riotous red, these gowns are pieced to pump up your adrenaline.

And the nominees are…

Woman – you define love

Woman – you define life

Woman – you define strength

Woman – you define poetry

Woman – you define patience

Woman – you define character

Woman – you define virtue

Woman – you define integrity

Woman – you define respect

Woman – you define beauty

The many moods and definitions of the woman are described by the medium of art. The story is set with miniature paintings so overwhelming that you could almost interpret each moment so fragile and sensitive. The grandeur of the Moghul era demystifies radical motions of beauty.

Beauty which is beyond comparison.

Art which is imparalle and precious

Created in awe inspiring brocades, the blouses represent feminity in its blessed form, the cotton skirts speak of grace and classicism and the hand painted dupattas become the canvas of creativity.

Depicted in rich hues of the Indian spice palette, this line brings alive the connoisseur in every soul.

She has stepped off the throne.

She reduced her ruffles without a moan.

Gone is the farthingale, the puffs and all pride went before the fall.

A transition, so as to say ‘Elizabeth', went to work that day!

Offices have stepped up their fashion quotient and have come a long way since the Elizabethan Era. But even though the style-o-meter has turned full throttle, Elizabethan charms still make their presence felt. Textures raised and cords intertwined with heightened waist and princess darts. Built-up yokes and Eton collars give an all encompassing definition to corporate dressing.

Dominance spelt the very episode of World War II. When subservience took birth and the repressed had no means of escape. Under the regime of its vertically challenged, but nevertheless formidable dictator Hitler, every subject was objectified and every mortal, mortified.

His symbols glorified and his livery terrified. His very expression was volcanic, his visage vitriolic.

Inspired by this great dictator, here is a collection with the very muscle of its muse, the spark of its audacity and the spirit of its reverberation.

Suede and linen coagulate to embody the essence of suppressing power. Metals, screws and rivets signify action; belts and caps connect the millinery of the era and coins emblemize the shades of olive green and brown.

Tonight fashion wages war!

Take down your dictation!

A bronze glow is painted by the intense setting sun over the pyramids, while the sands seem almost gold.

This very dust that was raised by many a horse, summoned to gallop by the pharaohs spoke about the power of possession and pride.

Fearless falcons and ownerless owls, although fluttered at opposite ends, paid obeisance to the beauty that belonged to Cleopatra, whose liaisons created history manifold.

Assembled on the lines of enticing Egypt and formed out of cotton-silks, this collection speaks of the cohesive force of cultures that are reminiscent of one another in their interpretation of embroidery, block prints and silhouettes.

Egypt visits India – Cleopatra with her emeralds and topazes has met her match in Menaka with her blues, sapphires and reds.

Deep under the blue sea bed, forms a tiny seed which isn't just another bead. It's the creation of one of nature's wonders, a perplexing by-product of a shy oceanic creature. Legend says that friendly fish swallowed the bead to protect it from mankind whose desires knew no bounds.

The pearl, so evanescent and ephemeral has been the object of fantasy, the jewel of adornment and the treasure of royalty. Weddings have their association with pearls since days of yore. The coy bride and the modest bridegroom have been known to wrap themselves in strings of pearls to announce their unification.

The two unified souls step up against the backdrop of a celestial celebration. Stallion black sherwanis and dhotis are emblazoned with antique embroidery and set in with the star of the theme - the pearl. Bustiers, corsets and skirts are part of the female entourage.

The jewel of the newly wed marks the beginning of this soulful transition…

All I saw a dragon fly…!

I mean a dragon, fly into its fabricated vicinity. When fire breathing symbols settle into chinoserie and chopsticks fit into crowns, when Feng Shui coins charm the ears and fans spread their smiles…

… Shanghai brings with it, its many facets and styles.

This Chinese city plays host to many a custom and culture and yet retains its insignia inspite of blending beautifully amongst its counterparts.

Its congeniality comes into focus with this Ethno – Chinese collection replete with China inspired embroidery and Indo – sporty silhouettes, interpreted in black silks and multi-coloured Jammavar. A confluence of the modern India and the Chinese lit motifs, this collection is an ode to the Asian Kitsch, hence celebrating a new bridge into the world of global fashion.

Immortalized Mortal

Water saw its master and turned to wine! This was one of the first miracles performed by Jesus Christ – the savior and the protector. His divine light assuaged human kind in their pain and suffering. Born in the image of God, this luminous figure full of compassion and kindness, went through the mortification that mere mortals had to undergo.

Reflecting the Christ's passion and the tribulations that encapsulated him, is a collection that speaks about the salvation that he bestowed on the tormented.

Textured jutes speak about the encumbrances that he faced in his time. Drapes that hold the body focus on the blessings He bestowed. Earthy brown, amber, sepia, whites and pitch black reflect the very many trials and characteristics that behold an era. Deconstructed and distressed segments and seams voice the gruesome violence and the domination of evil over the poor and the good.

The significance of the collection is of pardon instead of vengeance as Jesus said before he gave up his life: “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”
