Smokey eye makeup is perfect when you want to add a dramatic and daring flair to your look – from a night out to a special occasion. So in this blog, we will discuss this and provide all the knowledge you will require. Let’s get started.
To become a professional-level makeup artist, you will require to be a part of makeup artistry learning programs to knack your technical skills. Hamstech Makeup Artistry Courses would be the right choice for you if you are a makeup artist aspirant.
Quick Steps for Smokey Eye Makeup Look
Apply primer
Create a smooth base for your eyeshadow by applying eye makeup primer. Before you start doing your eye makeup, just put on a thin layer, on your eyelids that will help the colour go on more easily and last longer. You can even replace it with your regular face primer.
A fun way to create long-lasting smokey eye makeup is to try using coloured eyeliner as your eyeshadow base. Spot the eyeliner where you want it and blend it out with your finger. For this, it’s better to avoid using waterproof eyeliner as it has the tendency to dry quickly and won’t smudge well.
Brush a Medium Shade
Once you finalize your eye makeup shade, apply the middle eyeshadow shade over your entire eyelid and for this, a dome-shaped eyeshadow brush would work perfectly for applying colour all over your lids.
While doing this, stop just before the inner corners of your eyes, since that’s where your highlighter will go. For better understanding, if you’re going with a brown palette that holds in dark espresso, warm honey and a shimmery gold shade, you should be using the honey all over your eyelid.
Be keen and consider which colours will complement your eye colour and skin tone while choosing the colour palette, which means a grey and plum smokey eye will go well with green eyes, blue eyes pop with gold or copper while the shades of navy and grey work fantastic with brown eyes.
Lighter Shade to the Inner Corner
Highlighter is the lightest colour in your palette and dab it on the inside corner of your eyelid on both your upper and lower lids. Using your eyeshadow brush, Sweep it directly under your eyebrows as well. Now blend the highlighter into your middle shade using a fluffy eyeshadow brush.
If you would like to bring in a warm honey shade, use the brown palette from above. The tricky part of a smokey eye is figuring out exactly where to place your eyeshadow because everyone’s eye shape is different.
Layer Darker Shade onto the Outer Corner
Sweep the darkest colour in a ‘C’ shape by starting at the outside of your eyes which should go about halfway down your lash line and back halfway down the crease of your eyelid. For dark shadow, start at the outer corner of your eye and blend it inwards for the best results. The inner corner of your eye should be free of any dark shadow in order to make your eyes look more awake and vibrant.
Blend Together
With the help of a fluffy eyeshadow brush, swirl from the outer corner of your eye along your crease, the bottom of your eyelid and all the way up to the brow bone. It can take a little while to blend until the shadow fades gradually from the darkest to your skin tone without any harsh lines, so just be patient. Blend all the way from the outer corner to the inner corner of your eyelid and you can apply more colour if you wanted to while you’re doing this.
Add Dark Eyeliner
Make your smokey eye makeup more dramatic by applying pencil, cream or liquid eyeliner from the inside corner lash line to the outer corner of your eye.
- To make a cat eye, draw a line with eyeliner at the edge of your eye and then draw a small flick that points upwards towards the edge of your eyebrow.
- Across the top of your lash line, draw a thick line and then use your fingertip to smudge and blur the line for a smudgy look.
Define Lashes with Mascara
Apply mascara carefully by wiggling your brush between your lashes and remember to add no more than two coats to avoid clumps. Also, make sure you apply a single coat to the bottom lashes as well.
In order to make your eyes appear bigger and more open, try curling your lashes. To attain a more dramatic, long-lasting curl, you will need to heat your curler with a blow dryer first.
